Adam Ondra is having a hell of a year. In addition to onsighting 9a (5.14d)—something he's done twice in 2014—he's redpointed Biographie/Realization (5.15a, 9a+) and won both the bouldering and lead climbing World Championships. Never before has anyone won championships in both disciplines in the same year, and no one has imagined doing so while performing outdoors at the highest levels. The unprecedented achievements have left commentators grasping for suitable comparisons. There are none. In this profile of the master of rock and plastic, filmmaker Bernardo Gimenez follows Ondra from high point to high point, taking in the redpoint of Biographie/Realization, the first ascent of Ira (9a) in Spain, and his championship performances.
La Dura Complete: 9b+, The Hardest Rock Climb In The World
La Dura Dura ist die zur Zeit weltweit schwerste bestätigte Kletterroute (Grad XII− (UIAA) bzw. 9b+ (franz.)). Sie wurde von Chris Sharma 2009 im Klettergebiet Oliana in Katalonien (Spanien) eingerichtet und konnte am 7. Februar 2013 von Adam Ondra erstbegangen werden. Ondra schlug den Grad 9b+ vor, welcher von Chris Sharma bei seiner Wiederholung im März 2013 bestätigt wurde.
La Dura Dura kann in 3 Abschnitte eingeteilt werden:
- Der erste Abschnitt ist etwa 10 Meter lang, extrem überhängend und bewegt sich Bereich 9b/+. Beendet wird der Abschnitt mit einem schlechten Knieklemm-Rastpunkt.
- Der 2. Abschnitt ist ebenfalls etwa 10 Meter lang und bewegt sich im Bereich 8c+. Nach zwei Minizangengriffen folgt ein ordentlicher Rastpunkt.
- Der nun folgende 3. Abschnitt bis zum Umlenker ist etwa 20 Meter lang und besteht aus Kletterpassagen im 8b-Bereich.
